The left front seal started leaking and I did nothing about it. Now 2 years later there is a noise coming from the frontend, and when I go over bumps or on the freeway sometimes there is a knocking sound that sounds like it is coming from under the dash or the floor board.

Any idea what the problem could be?

I took the truck in for a frontend inspection and the guy told me I need a new trac bar. I have replaced the trac bar before. Has an upgrade been made for the 2nd gen Rams? I drive a 96 2500 4x4.

 

Knocking sound from under the dash or floorboard could be several things. If your track bar is worn, it won't help anything either, so start by checking that out.

Secondly, when mine has made noise going over bumps I've had 2 different things cause it. One was the lower shock bolts weren't tight enough. The bolt that holds those is just enough smaller than the hole that if you don't have it TIGHT (where the sides of the bracket pinch in and hold the shock) they will vibrate and open that hole up enough that the shock will make noise.

The other thing could be the intermediate steering shaft, but usually you can feel that in the steering wheel when going over bumps, etc.

 

I rebuilt my track bar with parts from Luke Links cost me $66. No problems for 2 years now. If it does it when you turn it could be the front u-joints.
