I know…. dumb question. I was thinking the intercooler on my 12 valve had water in it. When I finish driving my truck i have a drip on the driver’s side under my intercooler. There is a little moist spot on the front of it and a wet stain / damp stream running down the inside of the body where the hoses hook up. It’s not spewing or running just a drip drip drip. I pulled the thing off today ( PAIN IN THE ***!!!!) to take it to a radiator shop to weld/braaze. I was expecting fluid to come out of the hoses but I’m guessing it’s just air that flows through the intercooler?? If so WHERE IS THAT MOIST SPOT coming from?? The radiator doesn’t have any leaks as far as I can tell.It’s not coming from the A/C rad



Any help TONIGHT before I go to the radiator shop would be appreciated. Thanks

 

If you haven't taken it to the shop yet, and you have an air compressor, you could make up a rig with PVC to pressure test it.

Correct - only air flows through the intercooler. I suppose its possible that a radiator leak could have sprayed onto the IC under pressure - that could explain the wet spot and drip. What does the fluid look/smell/feel like?

The only way off hand that I can think of fluid getting into the IC (someone else chime in here) would be if oil leaked from the turbo.

 

If you have the intercooler pulled and wants to see if it leaks.
Put it face down on a tire or the like and fill it with water. If it leaks out the core, it has leaks, If not, you can clean it up and re-install it.

No need to take to a shop and give them money.

 

Thanks guys. I took the radiator to a shop this miorning and you are correct. The radiator was pissing on the intercooler when it gets hot. I bought another one today and am doing my KDP fix. I’ll also replace my front seal as well as torque the other bolts inside the front gear cover. Cheers fellas.
