Flickering headlights and dash lights?

Does it do it when you hit bumps? Could be anything from a lose wire, to dirty battery clamp connections to a flakey relay, to a bad connection at the headlight (corrosion). Could even be alternator brushes. Lots of variables.
When you say flicker, do mean off and on or like the headlights are shaking (moving when you hit a bump).
Our headlight switches are a known problem with over heating from to much juice running thru them. They like to melt connecters on the back of the switch. Especially if you keep the dash lights dim. This creates allot of heat at the switch. The fix is to use a relay to take the load off of the switch. Something the factory should have done. KD

My guess is a bad light switch. Those things are JUNK. I have put 2 in mine already in just 30k miles. Mine would also flicker when i hit bumps.

Certainly any of the above mentioned could be it. I'm going to vote for the alternator. My lights used to flicker as well. Not the dimming from the grid heaters but flickering. Several months later the alternator went South. Now with a rebuilt alternator I have to say I haven't noticed the lights flickering. May want to have the alternator bench tested so it doesn't leave you stranded. Just my thoughts.

I think I know what you mean. That sounds like what mine did as well. What I was referring to was the usual dimming that occurs when the grid heater cycles. The "dimming flicker" (good description) cycles/flickers quickly. The grid heater more slowly. I'd still get the alternator checked for peace of mind.
