Valid point Jim. Hp is Hp no matter if its belt or electric to get the air moving. The part that interests me is that they only run when they are activated, not spinning all the time. The viscous clutch doesn't totally disengage the fan and it does draw power all the time. In the winter you really notice it.

26 amps @ 60%
36 amps @ 100%

ure gonna c a HP gain of 20-30 HP. i would say closer to 30. now with having the electric fans u only uses 1/3-1/2 HP to run them.

I stand corrected.. After doing the math your right. 36 amps is only about 1/2 Hp. Hmm.. Is the stock fan that inefficient?

What were your temps before the fan change?
How are you only running 2-4 # boost at highway speeds pulling a big trailer?
Just some questions I have.
Thanks!

my temps before the change were 180-190 as well.
my boost 2-4 was pulling a 19' boat. not the trailer. the trailer we are running 8-12 #'s of boost.

But even pulling the boat....
My boost numbers doing that speed empty are between 5-10.

Nevermind, I Just noticed that you have a 12 valve lol.

I am interested in the fans too, but 550.00 is too much for me.

How have they paid for themselves? Don't tell me you are getting 5 MPG better. Any difference in fuel milage will be superfical or within a nominal varation. I can get seven mpg difference driving the same 600 mile road and same speeds. Even varations in fuel will make a difference.

WOW... what great info!

thanks for sharing... been wanting to switch to electric fans... also would like to get my engine temps up to 195 range for more efficient operation. that 1-2 mpg increase sounds like the ticket!

thinking my 97 12v wouldn't even need fans to kick in for most short runs.

If you read where he said he gained 1.5 to 2 mpg then you would have figured it out.. and it makes sense because its taking less horsepower away from the motor which means the engine doesnt have to work as hard=mpg savings and even if it was 1/4 of a mpg or 1/2 a mpg gain it still adds up and its still going to pay for itself
