Finding TDC using the valves and barring tool - Looking for link

I remember reading a post once that gave a procedure for finding TDC by running a valve adjuster down two full turns and rotating the engine very slowly and carefully clockwise until the piston contacted the valve. At this point you scribe a line on the harmonic balancer. Then you rotate the crankshaft CCW until the piston contacts the valve. Again you scribe a line. Then you scribe a line exactly centered between the first tow lines and you have TDC.

Does anyone know a link for this procedure? Anyone have experience? I want to check/set my timing and want to set TDC a little more accurately than using the cam plug.

Thanks,

Bob

Don't know about the two turns, I always heard to just to tighten them down then rock it back and forth.
You are smart to use a method other than the pin, I've found them to always be wrong.
Personally my method is a dial indicator down the #1 injector bore to find the top of the stroke.

I use a dial when I do the drop valve method, so I can run the valve back up to bar the engine past TDC, then set it back down the same depth. Other than that, you pretty much have it down pat.
