FASS pump question
FASS pump question
My 1997 CTD is having a strange fueling problem. When you first start it up in the morning fires right up and idles about a minute then stalls. Then you crank it till it fires again and runs fine. I have new hoses and clamps and can't find any leaks to allow air back in the system. My FASS pump is 8 years old and has about 100,000 miles on it. the local diesel shop said with that kind of mileage on it the power head maybe getting weak on the pump. I'am not a fan of the FASS and have been looking at putting a Hellmann's fuel sump on my fuel tank,Also a Waterman mechanical fuel pump on. One of my questions is can I use the FASS filter housing to filter my fuel or will I need to buy a different filter housing. P.S. I have new filter and water separater, The FASS is putting out about 25 PSI. Any comments?
Your FASS Pump may be wearing out with that many miles on it. I also have a FASS 180 GPH and mine went about 75,000 miles before I had similar symptoms to yours. I have heard of some FASS units going over 100,000 miles but not alot of them. They are good pumps, but like all mechanical pumps their parts wear out too.
