Extreme NOOB question (embarassed)

Could someone tell me about engine valves and drivetrains. I have a 95 2500 CTD but I don't have a clue whether it's 12valve or 24 valve or what that really means. And the only reason I ask about the drivetrain is because of the way these forums are broken up. I am really clueless. Thanks for the help and go easy on me.

From: central OH
89-93 = 1st gen 12 valve
94-98 = 2nd gen 12 valve
98.5-02 = 2nd gen 24 valve
03-present = 3rd gen 24valve HPCR (high pressure common rail)

You have a 12 valve, which mean mechanical fueling. 24 valves use electronics, and have chips/boxes/programmers. Your 12 valve uses fuel plates and such to make more power.

Enjoy,
Nick

Keep asking, keep reading, you will start to learn more than you ever wanted to know. A great site here! Wait until you do your first BOMB and get bitten by the addiction! Good luck!

Welcome to DTR!!

there is no such thing as an embarrasing question on here, Were here to help you learn, (heck im still learning alot myself, notice on my FP post) I ask WAYYY too many questions But its a learning process..

Your truck is a 12 Valve engine being that its a 1995. 24V engines didnt come out till 98.5. SO were here to help you, Put your truck in the sig, and ur good to go to ask away more questions and learn...

PS, what Mr T and Baja say is 100 percent true.. I "only" wanted 300 horses and 750 rwtq... Now look at my sig and see what im contemplating... and whats already been....

Good luck and enjoy learning!

It's no longer a stupid question once you ask it....

Welcome and enjoy. I work on these trucks on a daily basis and learn from this board. Great place.
