Engine Swap; '94 into '97

At 280k; my engine started a loud bottom end knock. Pulled the oil filter and it was full of metal.
After 6 months of searching for a replacement engine; I found one; it comes from a 1994 Ford B700 school bus, 136K miles and runs perfect.

My question is; what makes the '94 a 175hp engine...I think both have the same injector pump.
What do I need to swap over from my '97 to keep the HP the same (I can't remember what mine is, either 195 or 215)

Thanks.

DV valves and injectors will get it back up there.
You can swap the injectors from the old engine but I'm not sure on the DV valves.
But this is assuming the new engine is lower hp, it probably isn't.
Yearly hp changes that Dodges went though didn't apply in other applications.
You need to get the CPL number off the side of the timing case to find out.

If your pump isn't wrecked off your engine, I'd put that on the school bus engine. Typically, commercial pumps don't take to mods as well as the automotive pumps. The DV's can also be of different styles, so the DV holders might have to go with them if you decide to change.

Thanks for the advice guys,
Got it home today;
The CPL # is 1550.

I'll start a new thread as I put it in, and fix the truck up; its going to be slightly modded for torque and fuel mileage. Its going to be used in the business, but will double as my personal vehcle also.
I'll name the thread "project '97".

I'll get pics up of the engine soon.

Pretty sure the engines are the same except for the horse power rating, the 5.9 is in thousands of diesel powered stuff.

Alright, old engine is out of the 97. The good news is it is rebuild-able.
Number 2 spun a rod bearing, the bearing is competely gone...or actually is noe metallic dust in the oil pan and filter.

Also learned the turbo is almost toast (lots of slack), but the one on the donor engine is as tight as new.

First order of business, was the KDP, which I read much about here. It was out about a sixteenth of an inch, so I hammered it back in and made made a tab for it.

Been driving the 97 for a bout a month now; no noticeable difference in power.

Actually feels stronger, everything is stock. And it runs really smooth.

So what pump is on your bus engine? I have one out of a Freightliner and it has a 210 hp rating.

The pump looks exactly the same; the engine is "CPL 1550"

If there are id numbers on the pump, I didn't pay any attention to them.
