Engine cleaning
Engine cleaning
I have the air box off and the big plastic tube off the turbo. If I stuff a rag in the turbo and tape it off with plastic , is it safe to power wash the engine?
How dangerous is water in the turbo?
Thanks

Power washing your engine is generally not a good idea...over the years I have seen a LOT of posts here from people that had problems stemming from power washing....lots of electrical connections that are not as waterproof as they should be and troubles abound because of it.
I would make absolute sure it's sealed off perfectly with plastic before doing it. The turbo wouldn't like water in it at all. I'm really fussy about keeping my engines spotless, and pressure wash them a lot, but take precautions about keeping water out of sensitive areas, and making sure the engine isn't hot when I do it.
I usually will fan the water over electrical parts and connectors, but won't give them a direct prolonged hit with pressure unless I have an air line handy to blow them dry after.

Thanks. I''m not fastidious, but I like to do it occasionally.
I did put a rag in the turbo, wrapped with plastic wrap and duct taped thoroughly. The rag came out completely dry afterwards, so it worked out.
thanks for the replies!
