diff. between 12V and 24V?
I'm looking to sell my truck and get a diesel 2500 Ram. I'm gonna have to get one with quite a few miles beause I've got about $8000 to work with. Anyway what is the difference between the 12V and 24V engines and what trucks do they usually come on? i don't pull a lot of heavy loads all the time so which one would be better for me?
12v was till the middle of the 98 model year.
It is a mechanical injection pump, the 24v has an electronic controlled injection pump.
The 12v is more rugged, and more in your price range.
The VP pump on the 24v is cooled and lubed by fuel, do a search on here on "VP-44" and read about them, the P Pump on the 12v is almost indestructible.
I've got to run but I'll be back if you still have more questions, but I hope I gave you a start

the more I look online, the more I "stumble" across stuff here locally. Get the word out where you can- I got my 2wd 94 reg cab for $3000 :-) Had to put a new p7100 pump in (got a great deal from pensacola diesel on ebay) for $825 & $375 for installation & some other work (valve adjustment & diagnostics). So for $4200 I got a 12v with a performance pump..... not too shabby (thanks & praise the Lord is more appropriate) :-)
In the long run, except for the KDP, the 12v is more reliable, I believe. I have a 24 and a 12v, and while I love them both, I'd have to lean towards the 12v for reliability. The fact that you can make the P-pump push stoopid amounts of fuel also helps too.
The 1998 Ram with a 12v, sometimes called the holy grail of Rams, is the best because it has the best interior creature comforts, and the Quad Cab, but still the old reliable 12v.
