Did I hurt my engine? Dumb move!

I was on the freeway, and this car didnt see the construction zone, so in short, he cut me off and I had to slow down.

I down shifted into 4th, but I wasnt paying attention and went into third instead of 5th and revved the engine up a bit - I had my foot on the clutch I think, so it didnt stay there long.

Do you think i messed anything up?

Do the gov. springs prevent it from overspinning?

I'm dumb right now, advice? Bill?

LOL, How high did she go?

Supposedly harmonics at 4100 RPM will kill them, but there are guys going higher than that, although with race engines.

I would bet if you had a problem, it would have shown itself by now........

I hope I didn't go that high. I wasn't paying attention - sounded high

No worries these motors are tough, probably sounded worse than it was because you weren't expecting it. Don't lose sleep over it.

I wouldn't worry about it one bit.
Over revving without fuel would be very unlikely to cause damage.

I've done 4400 rpm in my 400k km 24v, no issues with it flying apart yet.

About the worst you would have done is float the valves, and since there was no fuel behind it, there wouldn't be much if any boost or drive pressure trying to crack the valves open. Unless you see or hear something wrong, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'll bet it did absolutely nothing to your engine.

It would likely be harder on you tranny sychros and your clutch than anything else.
