hi- I am trying to find info on dana rear ends- i blew out my pinion gear on my 95 oshkosh step van w/ a cummins 4bt3.9. it has a dana rear, so i am wondering about finding gears out of a dodge possibly. the gross on the truck is 14k, so it may be heavier than a one ton, however.

i got the tag from the rear and off the ring gear. the tag says 3.23 ratio

the ring gear is stamped-10 29 94 DANA A3927 A4976 4110 IF 313

the axle itself is stamped ODO59GA

i will need the complete gear unit and pinon,and am also looking for a pdf or something on doing a R&R on a similar unit.

I amhoping someone may know if i could get gears from a dodge to fit, or help ID this axle. I will try to get some pics up soon.

There is what's called a Bill Of Materials stamped on the passenger-side axle tube of all Dana axles. It's either 7 or 9 digits...can't remember right now, but it will tell whomever you're buying parts from exactly what to get for you during your rebuild. All Dana axles of similar designation are not created equal, so it's best to have this number and spend your money in the right place the first time. When I built my d70, the guy at the drivetrain shop knew more about my truck than I did just by having the BOM from the rear axle!

o.k.-according to randy's, i have a dana 70 axle with 4.10 gears-so.....

anybody got any parts for sale? i need the ring & pinion, and the cage w/ planetary gears.

or maybe i could find an axle off a 1ton, but then i would lose my huge disc brakes.I dont haul very much weight in it, scaled in at about 10k with all my tools loaded up, and 110 gals water in it.

heres some pics- i probably ruind the cage by running it the last 5 miles, to avoid a hefty tow charge, but live and learn. i still had to tow it with a tractor the last 1/2 mile. backwards.
