Cruise control...

doesn't seem to work. I don't know if I'm missing something. I have the cruise control mounted at the bottom of the steering wheel. I turn it on and the green light turns on. I push set and nothing happens. I guess it may just not work.

you have a vacume leak some where. i would start by looking under the drivers side battery. If the acid out of the battery leaks and gets on the vacume line it will put small holes in it which causes a leak.

I'll take a look at that. Thanks.

look at the brakelight switch and see if it looks like its all the way in. Both my and my dads truck had a bad brakelight switch. It was in far enough the brakelights not to be on but the cruse would not work. Ive heard its 10 dollars at napa.

The Switch also gets dirty,, take it off and use a good contact cleaner on them.

should be almost at the top of the brake pedal. When you push the petal down you should see it come out allitle.

Well everything has been done. KDP wasn't even there. My mechanic looked for the dowl pin and could find it anywhere. Had the front brakes done. Got the cruise control fixed. It was just as the first responder said, it was the vacuum line under the driver side battery. Truck drives great, and gets new shoes tomorrow.

I do have one question, do 285's make a difference in fuel mileage over 245's? Thanks.

Probably depends mostly on how you drive the truck and your current gearing. I run 285s and my tach is just above 1600 at 65mph. I've got the 3.54 gears. Cuts down the bottom end torque but runs the rpms lower.

Hope your mechanic put a new KDP in and contained it.
It really needs to be there, it's wife's tale that it's only there for assembly purposes.

Well he said he check everything and that in reality it does nothing but line it up for assembly. He took bolts out one by one and lock tited them and torqued them to spec. The works out of his private garage but he is certified by all the domestic companies. In reality if you thing about it a dowl pin like that Cannot hold that case in place. I am more confident in the bolts that hold the case on than a single dowl pin.

Maybe your mechanic couldn't find the KDP because it already fell into the engine.

He searched the oil pan for it and looked behind all the gears for it. He used a magnet to try and find it and came up empty. I'm going to drop the oil and use a magnet myself to try and find it there. It may have already fallen out during an oil change. Who knows how long it's been gone.

If none of these ideas fix your problem get a 2x4 and wedge it in between the seat and the go pedal
