If i give the gas pedal a little nudge, it fires right up. and its a little harder to start when its cold. Bad fuel shutoff valve solenoid? What and where is that? Can it be fixed? OR maybe a leaky overflow valve? would that give me poor mileage if it was leaky?<br>THanks for any responses.

 

I wouldnt worry about it. Mine has been doing the same thing every since I put my GSK and 370s in. I just give it a little tap and she'll fire right up. Plus its kinda like a theft deterent .<br> Wheels

Sounds like you need to bump the idle speed up just a bit.

 

Sounds like mine, I need to give it a little throttle to get it started.It cranks over a few times before it fires.It does idle pretty low though. That might be the problem.

 

It idles at like 600 when cold but when warmed up, it idles about 900.

 

I don't think you have a problem. So you hold the gas down a tad when you start it. Cheap fix. If it runs great after starting and your idle is good at warm up. I'd forget it and enjoy the truck. Both my 95's do the same thing.

 

Mine does the same thing : :P :'(<br><br>Notice that all of ours that are complaining are 97's?<br><br>I'd try to overflow valve. If that doesnt' fix it then probably the fuel return hose. :P

Mine was great till I installed a DTT converter. Nothing wrong with the converter at all - I love it. But I think that because it's &quot;tighter&quot; it loads the engine a bit more than the old one. <br><br>It would take a bit of fuel to start, and would die if I gave it throttle, then abruptly lifted (like when the guy in front of you pulls away from the liht, then steps on the brakes again).<br><br>I bumped the idle a bit, and now she's fine. does yours clank when you put in R or D? What changed with a new converter? Was it expensive?

 

mine doesn't take throttle to start (except when below 10*), but it does crank longer than when my dad had his '94. i believe that the timing is different from the pumps which makes it harder to start. have any of you tried to start your truck unplugged at -20*? <br><br>Tom

 

Loosen your governor springs 1 to 2 clicks. This will cause the idle in the truck to drop upto 200 RPM. Use the idle screw to raise your idle back up to 800 RPM or where you like it. The truck will now start with fewer revolutions. ;D Your upper RPM at which de-fueling occurs will be slightly lower.<br>I hope this helps, Marc

 

Thanks for the tip. I think ill look into that. Just gotta find out how to do both of those things. Im sure i can find it here on DTR.
