Yes, the engine will start fine, but the PCM will think that it's not running due to not getting an RPM reading off the CPS.

So I am guessing this could be my problem. This is the sensor located on top of the crank pully correct...

That is the correct location for the cps. It sounds like you may have something else wrong too. Check your fuses and clean the batt cables and fuesable link wires. then check your power in the pdc on the fender. Check your cps for metal stuck to it canceling out the signal and I gap them to .010".
Trans stuck in drive? If shifter is in park, you have internal tranny problems, probably valve body stuck from dirt or varnish. Good luck

I don't think he truly means the trans won't physically shift out of drive. I'm going through the same CPS problems, and when the CPS is disconnected, or inop, when you put the trans in drive, it physically starts out in drive, instead of going from 1 to 2 to D to OD. In other words, you have to manually shift.

You gap to .010" instead of .050"?

For what it's worth, I've replaced my CPS and am still having problems. I went through jiggling all of the wire looms, while somebody watched the tach, trying to find a problem with wiring. I couldn't find a thing, so I'm not sure why I still have the problem.
