WHY?? be specific.....

For me a p-pump would probably be the best option...I need both the quad cab and the shortbox and cant have a dually....SO that really narrows down my choices of trucks doesnt it?

I do know where ther is a 98 quad, sb,, 4X4, sport but its got over 190k on it.....dont know the history at all.

cheaper/easier, all the highest powered trucks run 12v heads, and a lot of 24v P-pump guys report some teething issues with drivability...

I subscribe to the KISS principle.

yeah....p-pump with bigger hp (id stick to around 400-450 or so) isnt supposed to be very streetable....

If I could find a good 12V and do the work - and actually make everything work...I think it would be worth the trouble...

Doc: Looking into my crystal ball. I see two trucks in your driveway, (future). That 98 12 valve would be perfect to work on till you get it the way you want it then peddle the overvalved unit ASAP.

It sure is a shame that they made the 12V quad cabs for only one year....Id buy TWO new ones RIGHT now if I could get them....

Q-cabs are really nice but I dont miss mine that much. Yea it was handy but I like this truck so much more than that 02, it doesnt even matter....until you need to toss some stuff in the back seat or you get a third passenger. But thats their problem...climbiing over the back of the seat. I always have them mount up on the passenger side, its not power and moves quick. Better go look at that 12 valve before somebody snaps it up. Then you will really kick yourself

Dusty,

you dont think thats too many miles on a 12V?? I know its low miles on a Cummins...but I want to make some real hp (400+) and wont get any maintenance history on the truck. Eexpensive at 22k (canadian pesos)....I guess what Im saying is I dont want to buy myslef a headache or money pit....

You dont miss your 02 eh? Interesting.

both 12v trucks I've owned, I bought with about 200k miles on them... and I didn't flinch at the miles...

as long as the truck runs/drives well and doesn't paint the tailgate w/ oil splatter at 75mph (like my current truck does! LOL!) I wouldn't bat an eye at 250-300k miles.

that's the beauty of the 12v. you don't have to wonder about the lift pump or injection pump.

400hp is nothing for a 215 pump motor... a p-pump at 700hp is plenty streetable... the only issues I've heard of are from 24v guys w/ p-pumps reporting some drivability problems... I don't know if it's an issue w/ the 24v cam or what, but I've never had ANY desire to run a 24v head w/ a p-pump... you can port a 12v head to outflow a 24v head anyhow.

One of the guys on nwbombers put a 12v it a 2002 truck. I think it might have been Evan Beck or one of the mechanics on there. After driving a warmed up 12v they are my chose of medicine.

gwhammy, so you think someone at nwbombers has put a 12 valve engine into a 24 valve truck.... I'd sure be interested to talk with that person... If this swap can be done without too many headaches and too much expense, I'd sure be interested. Knowing that I could do this if my 53 block decides to crack might take some of the sting out of the whole issue....

Actually it is worse than that, it was 3-4 months of production at best. I know exactly what you mean though, I'm not very excited about $40k on one but would be willing to consider it with such a motor / injection system.

$17,500 is a bit much for me, but as you know the 98 quads are like hens teeth and some would not bat an eye at that price. Sounds like Forrest is comfortable with the mileage. Might be worth looking into the truck.
