clutch pressure plate bolts..??
i got a new clutch, and it did not come with the pressure plate bolts or the pilot bearing, just clutch, pressure plate and throwout. ok, got another pilot bearing and figured what the heck, mistakes happen. the flywheel has been laying in the weather for 4 years along with the motor and tranny, no bolts to be found that seem to fit it. i bought a bunch of bolts misc. stuff for a cummins engine off ebay, and i found in there 2 kinds of bolts that are candidates for the job. both are the same size-length that i need, but the thread count is different. one is a fine thread and the other is a courser thread. neither screw into the holes very easily. i was wondering what the thread count should be that go in the flywheel so i can get a tap that size and clean the threads out. the holes are rusted up from the weather, i don't want to put the wrong thread size bolts in it. i don't want to buy a new one, since i already bought a ring gear and had the surface ground at the machine shop. i did find an old set of bolts that go to a 2000 cummins. they match up with the course thread bolts i already found. but still won't screw in very easily. so i am wondering if they should be the same or different. any help will be appreciated.

i just used the bolts that i found out of a 00 dodge... i think they were in fact 8-1.5's i don't know
it was tight, but i just ran them in there and i hope they stay, if not, it is gettin drilled out to a 3/8 standard thread bolt
i think that is the right thread count anyways... why would cummins use the same size bolts, but use a different thread count from 94-00?? (if you know the answer, please don't answer that) and they all tightened up, none stripped out. it may be a very unpleasant experience getting them all back out in one piece next time, but we will worry about that later! hemi cat, no hate mail, you got my word.
