choosing a good motor for my ford?

ok guys new to the cummins world but I have a tired powerstroke, I ve finished doing all the piddly stuff to my powerstroke and now I'm pretty set on doing a cummins conversion. I'm going with a p pumped 12v and just wanted to know what to look for, are there any dirffrences on the years? I'm gonna buy a used motor and would like to know if there's anything I should look for when checking it out.

Basicly what I want to know.
-what is the good years for that motor if there's a diffrence?
-what to look for in a used motor to hope I get a good one?
-what is the best hp pump?
-anything else you mite can think of that will help.

p-pumped 12v so youre looking for 98 and older, unless you find someone thats p-pumped a 24v and you want to go for that. the 24v head flows better in stock trim. Maybe better off porting a 12v head if youre that serious though.
96 I think was when they started with the EGR crapola. Not 100% on that though. Doubt it affects the swap anyhow.
Issues with cracking 53 blocks and such were on the newer stuff, no worries here.
The pump you want is the 913 215hp one from teh manual trans version.
I -really- wanna do this swap myself. The dodge chassis is pretty bad. from the front ends to the sheet metal.
Put a 12v and a built up 47re in a ford chassis you got a nice truck there.
The only thing I worry about is that (in the communist states anyhow) newer truck chassis will be subject to the emissions regs that come with that year and model, and the diesel might not float. Any electronics that are mandatory for the inspection wont work since the motor and ECM are really basic.
I think Id have to find an older ford diesel that imploded and put my motor in that.

I'm not real worried about emissions, all my truck came from the factory with was a muffler. Its a 99.
