Changing oil sensor on 98 12 valve
I recently changed the oil sensor on my 98 12 valve. Tools required 5WR peterson vise grips, 3201 Pony clamp, and Oil Pressure switch socket Car Quest STL 13250. Parts Car Quest PS-291 oil pressure switch and contact cleaner. Step 1 Locate oil sensor which is under the power steering pump. This is done from the bottom of the truck in front of the front wheel. Step 2 Remove electrical connector. The connector has a double lock. Pull the red tab on the connector ~ 1/8 of an inch
Rotate the oil sensor counterclock wise with the vise grips until you can see the push tab. Clamp the pony clamp on the push tab. This releases the second lock on the connector. Pry the connector off of the sensor with a screwdriver. Step 3 Remove oil sensor by unscrewing counterclockwise. Step 4 Clean the electrical connector with contact cleaner.
Step 5 Screw new sensor into the oil passage hole clockwise.
Step 6 Screw in new sensor until snug. Leave with red tab down.

OK......So what's a pony clamp. And why under the truck? My wife's electrical wiring connection just poped off from the top. Course I tried to find a deep, deep socket to fit, but no workie. Did you install with the vice clamps?

..Preston..

A pony clamp is a spring clamp that is purchased in some hardware stores. I used the socket listed in the first post to install the oil sensor. The vise grip was used to rotate the sensor with the electric connector still attached.
