can't get to the plate

finally got the gauges in and I decided to slide the plate. Well i can't even get the first screw out to get into it. The break-off screw is towards the cab and not the front of the truck and the slotted screw towards the front of the truck under the injection lines is just slipping. how the heck do you get that screw to come out?

I just started doing this tonight. Use a hand impact tool for the slotted bolt, it came out no prob w/out breaking even!.. They say to use a hand impact w/a T-15 and 1/4" ext on the break-off using light taps at first to make a groove for the torx bit to bite, then gradually hit it harder.. Doing that tommorow, we'll see. Good luck

Two easy ways. Use a left twist drill bit. Either the bit will catch the head of the bolt and twist it off or it will drill the head off and you can remove the threaded shank with channel locks. Or, use a 1/8th x 6" drill bit, drill down the center of the dimple on the bolt. Hammer in a torx bit, it will easily cut its own grooves, and remove it that way. No need to beat the heck out of the AFC. Replace all bolts with Allen heads.

Guys, sounds like he got the breakoff screw out.. its the silly slotted screw after that. Well one thing to do is to torque down the other 3 fasteners first to take the load off that screw. Then the same trick as the break off, a pin punch and a hammer on the edge of it to pop it free. After you get it out, use some never sieze on it and tighten it last.

I used a 18-volt DeWalt Impact Drill - shove it on there with a flat bit and ease into the power - twisted it right off.

I haven't gotten any of the screws off. After I couldn't even get the slotted screw off I decided to wait before I got angry and broke something. I found a hand impact in town today which is a huge surprise. I am not sure exactly how i am going to get between those fuel lines, but i'm going to give it a try.

Thanks

Where are you located maybe someone is near you and can help ya out. I always take a flat head screw driver and tap on edge of it a few times then try it unscrewing it with a pair of vice grips on the end of my screw driver.

Also did you add any lube (WD40) to it?

I did mine like "94DK107" said and I had no problem. Once you get the bolts you'll want to replace them with different bolts, I used SHCS (socket head cap screws) I think they were either 5mm or 6mm bolts.

To get between the fuel lines use a 1/4"x6" extension on your impact driver. It will fit nicely between the lines. A adapter may be necessary in your driver is 3/8".

a hammer and a punch works it works when the break-off is under the injection lines, it'll certainly work with the flat-head bolt.

put the flathead fastener at the top rear hole and leave the top front empty. I've run three bolts on every 12v I've ever owned (five of them) and never had a leak

I got to it last night. I tried to use reverse bits to extract the break off screw but it kept slipping in the chuck so I hammered a torx into the hole I drilled and it came right out. I slid the stock plate full forward, but it doesn't seem that it changed anything.

You've got to remember that plate position or type doesn't come into play unless you're under heavy load or full throttle.

Move the star wheel then you will notice the plate more.
