Hi All
I have a 97 3000 with auto trans. Just before it shifts into overdrive it bounces back and forth between the gear it is in (3rd or 4th I don't know) and the gear before that (2nd or 3rd) It will not do it if I put the pedal to the floor and it doesn't do it all the time. I am taking it in to have the trans oil, filter and bands adjusted, is there something I should tell them to look at?

Rather than bouncing from gear to gear, I think it might be the torque converter locking and unlocking in 3rd gear just before the shift to 4th (overdrive). The transmission is designed to lock up in third, unlock for the up shift, and then lock up in 4th. Find a shop familar with Dodge transmissions, or someone here might tell you how to adjust it.

 

If you are shifting with the OD off button off this sounds normal. With OD off you are in 3rd locked, turn the OD on and the TC unlocks into 3rd, shifts to fouth then locks. It go though what seems like three gears to get to 4th locked.
