You can swap to the nv5600 pretty easily. I have a 95 12v that was auto and now is a six speed. I found mine in a 2001 that had caught on fire. Got the trany and input shaft on my transfer case changed, pedals, shifters, etc for $2500.00. I put a new clutch in mine while it was out. If you do the swap dont forget to put a 1/2" spacer between the starter and and where it bolts. Any questions I would be glad to help. Truck is 2x as good as it was. Went from 17mpg to 21mpg.

Exclamation Help!!

If you guys can provide any p/n I would really appreciate it! I'm trying to put an '03 NV5600 behind my '90 12V. There is a lot of mis-information out there. I bought a new engine adapter as it was advertised that I needed a different one (This 12V had a Getrag behind it.). Turns out this adapter won't bolt to the back of the engine block! So you might understand my troubles so far..... (What I found strange is that the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same between the Getrag and the NV!! But I believe the getrag engine adapter won't work because the NV5600 input shaft is 1" longer than that of the Getrag.)
Anyway, I was told the starter is different from my '90. I also heard the auto had one starter and the manual a different one.

The info I'm looking for is on the engine adapter, starter (and spacer if really needed!), clutch and flywheel, clutch master / slave, and drive line yoke p/n. If you don't have the p/n then the sizes would help too!

(This is the power train I'm attempting to put in the Int'l Crew Cab I have.... Should be an awesome truck if I can ever get it in there!!)

What year of engine adapter did you get? If its from a CR engine, then I can see it not bolting up. One from a 2nd gen is what you would likely want. Starter from a 2nd gen would go along with that, and depending on the clutch, a starter spacer.

IIRC, the 2nd gen adapters are deeper than the 1st, which is why they need to be swapped when putting a NV4500 or other tranny in.

Thanks for the info.
I don't know what the parts are I've been scrounging except for part number and measurements. So far I can't find a resource to be able to tell what parts are for what. (Guy I bought that first adapter from told me it was for putting the NV5600 behind the 1st gen 12V's.... Was he wrong!!)
You are right about the adapter being thicker! Turns out it is an inch deeper than the one that came on my '90 12V Then when I measured the input shafts I found the NV5600 is basically 1" longer than the Getraqs! It sticks out the front that 1" farther.
There are 8 bolts that hold the adapter on. On the 'wrong' adapter I bought only 2 of them don't line up. The rest are in the same place. I should see if I can get the p/n off my '06 to see if they are the same p/n. I'm pretty sure they will be.
What I did is get the p/n off a '99 w/ a NV5600 of a guy that I work with. His doesn't have the 'spacer' for the starter (This puts the starter flange in the same plane as the back of the engine block. On the 'wrong' adapter the starter has been shifted forward (In the truck) 9/16" by a shoulder that is part of the adapter.) I found that same adapter and bought it.

Any and all help you guys can provide is really appreciated. If any of you would want, I can keep track of what I find out about part numbers and applications and we could make up a master list. This would be so helpful right now for my project!!

Tate, you have a very nice list of add ons on your trucks! I might just have to bug you about how you did some of them!! (As most are what I want to do as well!!) Good Job!!

Thanks again!!

Dan

On the older 13" flywheels and DD clutches, you had to put a spacer between the starter and adapter or the starter gear would interfere with the ring gear. The 215/235hp 24v's all ran the 12.25" clutch and didn't need the spacer. The 245hp (HO) trucks had the 13" clutch.

I agree it is sweet, I love mine!!! Highly recommended

The reason I would do a G5600 over NV5600 is parts availability, parts are getting scarce on the NV5600.
