Calif EGR and TST plate

I am looking to buy a 97-98 12 valve truck with visions of some performance increases. I went to the TST web sight and saw they don't sell their plate kit for these trucks. Does this mean it won't work or fit or just that it would be in violation of some smog law? Or would it be better to disable the EGR stuff ? Your answers may influence my choice of a 12 or 24 valve truck. Thanks John

Re:Calif EGR and TST plate

Hey John-
The first mod I did to my 97 EGR equipped truck was install a Tst #6 fuel plate. The truck ran allot stronger then stock and egt & smoke wasn't bad. I then replaced the intake manifold with a 49 state type and blocked off the egr port on the exhaust manifold. This reduced my egt about 200 degrees so then I decided to add allittle more fuel... The Tst #4 plate went in with pdr 370's, 3k governor springs & delivery valves.
great power but I can see very egt too.

john l

Re:Calif EGR and TST plate

I guess if your name is John and you have a 97 CA truck you should answer this one I disabled my EGR stuff exactly as John L described. It seems to work fine. I suspect the TST disclaimer for the CA trucks is as you stated...CYA language for smog laws. As long as you aren't breaking any of your state's laws you should be OK. I would like to get an ATS 3 piece exhaust manifold... but they are darn expensive.

Re:Calif EGR and TST plate
Aaron-
Sorry for not responding sooner (xmas). The 3k gov kit I purchased didn't come with any exhaust valve springs so I can't help you with that question. Installing tips or suggestions? Get the strongest pencil style magnet you can't find.. I installed the new springs by going thur the fuel cam plate hole but I think others go thur the plug on the side. The installation isn't bad but alittle nerve racking. I had a very hard time starting the job. I remember peering down the little fuel plate hole and seeing where the governor spring are and saying to my self "You got to be kidding."

John
