Broken metal fuel line. Do I need to bleed the injectors?

Broken metal fuel line. Do I need to bleed the injectors?

Coming to work this morning I ruptured the metal fuel line that goes to the injector pump from the top of the fuel filter housing. I have a new one coming from cummins tommorrow but I was wondering if I need to bleed the injectors to start it or if I can just prime the fuel pump a few times and try to start it. For the life of me I cant figure out why the line broke but it cracked right at the banjo fitting at the inj pump about 2/3 the way around the line. I suppose I cant complain as it lasted 233,000 miles.

The truck may actually start without any priming but if it doesn't you should only need to prime the pump with the push button. It should be very hard to push when it's primed. You may even hear a little fluttering noise from the overflow valve.

I wish these newer trucks had the manual priming pumps, but they forgot about em. You might get lucky and just be able to bump the starter a few times and have it prime. But more than likely you will have to either crank the starter and hold the go pedal to the floor to release the air or crack a couple of injectors one at a time until you see steady fuel coming out. Usually if you bleed #1 & 3 injectors that will crank it enough to get them started. At least that's my experiance.

Sounds just like the gererators I used to have to bleed all the time from people running them out of fuel. Should be a cake walk then. On my 04.5 I just leave the filter housing loose and turn the key to on a couple of times and it will fill the filter. I wonder if the 24v are the same way as the ISBs? Definatly easier than priming the 12v. Thanks for the help guys.

I got the new line installed today and drove the truck home. What a difference the line made. Must have had a small crack that was sucking air because the topend power is stronger than before. When I put the line on I left the banjo bolt fitting on the inj pump loose and primed the fuel pump till fuel came out. Then I tightened it up and cranked the motor for 10 seconds. No start. I then gave it some throttle and cranked the motor. She fired off after a few seconds and never missed! Other than the "I cant believe this broke" thing everything went smooth. Thanks for the help guys.
