Brakes
Brakes
Like I've said in earlier posts (thanks for all the input) - I've traded a 95 v10 5spd for a 95 ctd a/t extended cab. The brakes on my v10 felt fine and provided good stopping power. However, the diesel truck seems to have far less brakes - I know the ctd is probably heavier and braking characteristics w/auto are different than manual, but is this normal - can the braking be improved? I've replaced the front pads (some improvement), but I have not touched the rear (usually not a problem on pickups). Thanks, Pat
Re:Brakes
Pat,
Like rick stated you can check the adjustment on the rears, that might help. If it a true performance up-grade you would like, then I would reccomend taking to the guys at EGR brakes. They have a nice system, and it does make the truck spot very quick. I realy like the larger wheel cyl in the rear, you now can feel them grab. The system is quit expensive, and I don't know how bad you want to improve your brakeing system, but this is a great option. You are correct, in that the deisels are heavey and don't offer the compression brakeing your V-10 did. That is another reason why this is such a nice upgrade, nothing like a solid brake pedal, with binders to match. Good luck

Re:Brakes
Yes on a dually.....The rotors were RAYBESTOS super stopers,They are extreme duty, cross drilled and gas slotted. The list on them was $195.95 and my cost was 110.00 each.
I got them at KOI auto parts.

Re:Brakes
Pretty common problem for the rear shoes to not work or barely work. I would suggest you pull them apart, completely disassemble and clean each shoe and all its parts. Then adjust them up reasonably tight. You'll see a definite improvement.
