Boost and Pyro while cruising.
Boost and Pyro while cruising.
Just wondering if my boost range and pyro is normal for my relatively stock truck.
Cruising at 70mph boost is ~8-10psi, Pyro is ~700. Seems to me boost is too high.
While at 60mph boost is 4-5psi.
Any feedback would be appreciated. I plan on replacing the turbo with an HTT 62/71/13ss later this spring.

Your numbers are normal. Weather (especially wind) will affect those numbers. Nice days I'll br running about 8psi and 650 degrees on the highway at 80 mph. Last trip I did to Edmonton was -20C, was running 15-25psi and 800 degrees at the same speed.
Makes sense. Looks like I'm all good. Thanks for the explanation.

Result is no wastegate.
If you're only getting about 20 psi of boost your wastegate works.
To block the wastegate just cut the line to the wastegate actuator and stuff a 1/4" bolt down the end of the hose going away from the wastegate and hose clamp it.
4to 6 psi at 800 degrees at 70/ 8 psi at 850 degrees at 80/ WOT 44psi @ 1300 max.. when i had the stock turbo everythings the same except the egts were a tad bit lower for crusing but pegged the gauge (1500) at wot and the boost was at 40.
Another idea is that if you plan to get a boost elbow in the future with a plate to control the wastegate, get a hose pincher from the local automotive store and just pinch the rubber line to the gate near the IP. That way you don't have to pull anything apart and just snap it over the hose and tighten. I did that until I started getting over 35 psi boost and got the elbow with the TST plate kit. I still use the elbow with my S300 turbo to tune the boost in the 45 ish range.
