BOOST

WHAT KIND OF PSI IS POSSIBLE WITH A HOLSET WH 1 TURBO WITH A16 CM HOUSING BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF I NEED TO GET THE 0 TO 60 OR 0 TO 40 BOOST GUAGE.

Re:BOOST

If you plan on upgrading the turbo after awhile, I would go ahead and get the 0-60. I doubt you will ever see 40 psi with the WH1, although it is possible with heavy fueling by means of bigger injectors and tweaks on the pump. This is way out of its effeciency range though.

Re:BOOST

Better get the 60. I hit 39lbs running empty with my stock H1C many times before switching to a PDR 35. I am putting the H1C back on tommorrow for test reasons with the PDR cam so you guys can compare.

mark

Re:BOOST

1ST GEN,

IMHO the 40 would be fine. You see, if you follow the "rule of thumb" (1 psi/10hp), 40 psi will support 400hp. Planning on making more than that? Beyond a certain point, the efficiency of the turbo drops, resistance to flow rises, and your EGTs and intake air temps go up.

I recently installed an upgrade kit on my HX35- it's a compressor housing and wheel for a HX40. I can hit 42 psi peak very quickly, but adjusted my boost control for 35. Maybe my turbo will live longer from not being over-speeded.

Re:BOOST

I'm running a 30psi boost guage. Before I put my "built" pump on I could hit about 28 psi. My truck is much stronger now than it was with the old pump. Now I hit about 22 tops - you can look at my sig to see my dyno numbers. There is more in the old girl but I think I can stay in the mid 20's and still see 20mpg average with a little right foot control.
I guess what I'm saying is that it depends on what you want to do with your truck. I bought mine to tow when I retire - which is just around the corner. My current set up is good with room for a little more maybe 275 hp ??? Who knows. Decide what you want to do then go for it
Bob
