battery-starter woes..

may have been covered previously, as I do remember others writing about the starter contacts (or something along those lines )

anyway, thought, for some odd reasons, my 1 yr old 800CCA PAIR of batteries were run low, after the truck sat for 3 weeks...

tried to start, and maybe one, or two cranks, then click click.

put the battery charger on it for a day. batteries reached 12.60+. Tried to start, turned over SLOWLY... again,

NO START

and REALLY pulls a HELLA load from the batteries. to the point where the charger is back to 60-70% output...

Thoughts?

my brother's 97 was experiencing the same, and with a new starter (his was too bad to rebuild...) it turns over like a mini-starter!

Thanks guys!!!

Whats the voltage like when cranking? Even if the batteries are relatively new, they could be bad. A load test should tell you if they are good or not.

Good batteries and slow cranking/no cranking, I had a starter that had the brushes that were completely worn out and had some serious pitting from arcing on the slip rings. Might be due for a rebuild.

i agree with starter contacs they anly cost 24.00 dollars a cheap place to start, but i would have your batterie tested first.low batteries can cause damage to your starter.

Thanks guys..

so, if the starter is kicking the crap outta the batteries, it's probably not hi-resistance in the starter? probably batteries need changing (again.. 3rd set in 2 yrs....)
