BAD oil leak. please help

i need this truck for work and cant have it off the road. its a 97 12 valve. i know its not the valve covers, and the pan gasket i dont think is the problem because the oil is coming from higher up but of course the fan is blowing it all over the bottom side of the motor. the oil looks like the highest point as far as i can see is wet is right under the water neck on the motor on the timing cover or somethin. i know its not the kdp because ive already fixed it.is there any other common places around there for a leak? its fast enough that im runnin 2 or 3 quarts out a day. and im worried about that. any help is appreciated

Check the seal at the bottom of your vacuum pump. It's a common failure, and there's a lot of oil flow there. Good news is it's also a simple fix, and Cummins makes a repair kit that costs less than $15.

its not there. its wet on top of the aluminum timing gear case right by that idler pulley, under the upper radiator hose

Most likely your problem is going to be the timing cover gasket, and the origin of the leak will fool you due to the cooling fan. When mine was bad, I could lose a quart or two a day. The underside was an oily mess!

Also, if you find this to be the culprit, most auto parts dealers including the dealership will tell you a gasket is not available and to use Permatex to reseal. NOT TRUE!!!!

The gasket is available from Cummins, is made of good rubber, and is not very expensive. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Check the bolt tightness and make sure none have fallen out.

if its the cover youll need to reseal it and get a new crank seal, if its the timing case seal, be prepared to spend some time, cause u need to pull the cam to get it off, and hopefully its not caused by kdp.
