Axle Seal Leak

Went out for a day of off roading and came back with bent steering linkage and an axle seal leak.

What is envolved in replacing the drivers front axle seal?

Changing the driver's side seal is nothign too major, all you need is a little time, patience, beer, and a good understanding of colourful language.

Basically, you remove the both hub assemblies, pull the axles, remove the front cover, pull the differential assmebly out, change your seal, and re-assembly is the reverse of removal.

Most people say that you require a diff housing spreader, in order to get the diff back together, but in my experience, this has not been the case. Either I am really lucky, or there are easier ways.

Good luck in your axle seal quest, may the force be with you

Sounds like a good time replace the front diff cover with a nice aftermarket one!
