Auto tranny temp sensor

I have a gauge and sending unit I'm about to install on my 47RH.
I picked up a small manifold to hook up to the steel cooler line. I noticed on the front left side of the tranny, there is a sensor hooked into a black steel line about 2-3" from where it comes out of the trans. just above the pan.
Now, I was wondering if this would be something I could hook my sending unit into? I also can see 2 other sensors plugged into the trans. body close to the line I mentioned above.

Remove the stock sender located on the driver's side hot line a little forward of the tranny and replace it with your aftermarket. The stock sender is 3/8", likely your aftermarket is 1/8", you will need a bushing.
Now you will need to trick the computer into thinking the ATF isn't too hot or cold. Do this by jumping across the stock sensor leads with a 1000 ohm resistor (Radio Shack 25¢) the stock sender goes in your toolbox.

Could just use a t-fitting and have both! They are all NPT fittings available at most any hardware store.

Been there done that, it doesn't work. Unless the tip of the probe is in the fluid flow it will read low. When I did it it took 15 miles of driving before the stock sensor read high enough to allow lockup. The aftermarket gauge never got above 80F.

will it work to add an additional in line tee for the new trans gauge in the hot line? and leave the existing sensor there too? or will this also cause problems? then you could have the original sensors and the new one for the gauge.

I can see that . I used a compression fitting for mine in the factory line. Looks just like the dieselmanor line. I woulnd't see where adding another sensor a few inches away would cause a problem. That would keep it in the flow at least.

Thanks for the help every one. I think for now I'm going to install the new sensor where the old one is and put in a 1k resistor in the stock sensor as Infidel suggested.

I picked up some resistors in a package with 5 different types. I don't know how to read the color bands to tell them apart. Can anyone tell me which color code would represent 1000 Ohms.
