Auto Tranny
Auto Tranny
I am looking at buying a 94 3/4 2wd with an auto to replace the truck in my sig (dont ask why) lol.... anyhow the price is right and I have been around this truck my whole life, and it hasnt pulled any heavy loads with great frequency and everything is serviced on a regular basis (he's **** about that kind of thing) however it's and auto and I am freaked out about it. I love my standards!!! But if the tranny should go what is the goin rate to get it rebuilt or get a rebuilt one?? I have a fully equipped shop and would do it myself but I aint gonna be around for a while (on the road with said truck) the trucks got 133,000 on it and hauled a light GN trailer around about a 12-15 times a year and a 30' 5er once a year from 94-00. It will be pulling a 24' GN stock trailer some as well. I don't like the change from standard to auto but this may be too good of a deal to pass up. Any input would be great, thanks guys!

I have a 1995 3/4 ton auto, SLT extended cab, { see signature}. I have had it about a year now. The previous owner pulled a horse trailer that he pulled with two horses that weighed about 1400# each occasionally. I have a 5,000# boat I pull on occasions but not far maybe 150 miles a year up and down steep inclines. To date I have had no problems but I do baby the truck. I never pull in OD and never go into OD when under 45 miles mph and have the tranny serviced. I did install guages the tranny temp being one of them. I only put maybe 6000 miles on this first year of owning it as I am retired and do not have to travel to a job daily. Just wash and wax my truck. Besides all that I got tired of shifting gears years ago. So I guess the bottom line is if your getting a good deal I wouldn't be afraid of an auto if the previous owner has maitained it well with records or you know him personally and his service habits. You will probably loose some mpg and if you want to bomb your truck I am told one of the first things to do is beef up the auto to go with the extra horsepower. I am sastified with beiing stock less headaches and I don't need to impress anyone. "Slow but sure"
