Auto shift lever and gear indicator showing different

On my 95 auto, my shift lever, when in the park position(can turn key all the way back and remove it) does not indicate P in the instrument cluster. When I pull it all the way down to 1st and hold it, while driving to ensure it is indeed 1st gear, the instrument cluster indicates 2. So the pointer in the instrument cluster is basically up a notch from where it should be. And the pointer does move freely, so I don't feel that it has broken off or anything like that. How do I go about fixing this?

Also, I just adjusted my shift linkage, as it wouldn't start unless I wobbled the shifter lever, and it now starts in park and neutral, from the detents counted on the transmission when cylcling the lever. However, every couple of tries, it won't start in park, but fine in neutral. On the lever coming out of the transmission, a very small push backwards by hand will get it to start in park. What is the most common point to wear out in the linkage? Or will I have to replace the whole thing? I wouldn't say there is excessive play in the linkage, but I don't know how tight they are new. BTW, truck has 238k miles on it, so the stuffs seen some wear and tear. Thanks for any help.

Adjustment screw

Kas83
If you remove the panel below your steering wheel you will see a small cable which comes from your indicator pointer and mounts onto the steering shaft. At that point there is a plastic adjusting screw that should let you adjust the needle where it should be. Hope this helps.
