Anyone in NW Iowa area to help with KDP?
I just picked up a '96 auto with 100k miles. I'm sure the kdp hasn't been done yet. Is there anyone in the area to assist with such a project? Thanks
kdp killing party NW Iowa?!
I just spoke with local diesel shop and they quoted me 24 hours labor
times $74/hr shop rate = $1,776 just to kill the kdp.
Crap, I might as well let it fall out for that price. The guy told me that he has seen many cracked cases, but has never seen the pin out of the hole. So I ask myself, how are all of these cases cracking? There has to be someone in SE south dakota, NE nebraska or NW Iowa that has some experience in killing kdp. I'm trying to be proactive by taking care of it sooner than later.
Thanks

If you're even moderately handy, then this really is a straght-forward job to do yourself. It's also a great way to become more familiar with your CTD. I did a ton of research ahead of time, printed out lots of pictures that I found on the forum, and took my time over a weekend. Make sure that you have all of the tools and parts you will need ahead of time. Also use this opportunity to remove and flush your radiator, replace all of the coolant hoses and thermostat, replace the serpentine belt and tensioner pulley, etc. I promise that you could buy all of the parts and tools needed and spend a fraction of what that shop quoted you in labor.
PM me if you are interested in more specific tips and tricks for the KDP tab fix.

For what it's worth, as mentioned before, get the tst kit and tear into it!!! I'm not one for fixing something that aint broke or something that has the potential for going real bad but with the TST kit you cant go wrong! it is extremely easy and very good directions too. I recommend using a cummins gasket instead of rtv sealant but that's me. I learn from watching so I was leary about tearing into the motor but piece of cake. I did my 97 and then 2 weeks later I did my 96. go for it
