Another TPS/Trans Question

Well my worries are starting to come true. My piece of crap auto tranny is starting to give me problems. At first I thought it was the TPS, because it matches most of the symptoms. Instead of the TC unlocking only when I completely let off the throttle, its unlocking at about 1/4 throttle or less at around 50-55 mph. If I use a bit more throttle, its fine.

But I have another symptom. My BRAKE and ABS lights are on, and only came on during the same trip when the transmission problem started. Is it typical for those lights to come on if a TPS is bad or dirty? Or should I be looking in a new direction?

I was kind of wondering if the speed sensor could have something to do with it, but I can 't see what that would have to do with the brakes...the ABS uses its own sensor in the rear differential. It shouldn't be a bad ABS sensor, since those shouldn't have anything to do with the transmission.

I'm goiong to disassemble and clean the TPS (as described in another thread). I have read that these are expensive to buy, but I haven't seen an actual dollar amount...what do they typically cost to replace?

It sounds like you have two separate problems.
Replace the rear sensor and clean the tps.
If cleaning doesn't work a new tps from Napa is about $160.

Well as is usual with my luck those 2 problems have turned into 3. Starting today, I lost oil pressure, according to the gauge. I think its just the sending unit, so I'll be replacing that soon.

Be sure to use a quality unit, as in one from Cummins. I've read to many occurances of the cheapo ones not lasting lately.
