I thought of posting this on the thread below dealing with strange noises, but decided that would be tantamount to hijacking the thread. Maybe not, both might be realated. Anyway, my '97 has a ticking/ckicking noise, and something that sounds suspiciously like a miss. There is no feel of a miss, as near as I can tell the engine pulls smoothly throughout the rev range. Using a stethescope one can hear the noise most clearly when on the fuel line to #1 injector close to the injector. As you get farther from the injector the sound is fainter, it can be faintly heard at the injector pump. The click can be heard, but not as loudly, on the injector body, on the head and faintly on the valve cover. The click cannot be heard anywhere else. What are the chances the noise I'm hearing is a bad injector?

 

Not very good based on your description. If really want to presue, swap with another injector on engine.

Have you completely ruled out a valve out of adjustment? Run an overhead and see if that clears up the noise. Click here for instructions.

 

Checked the valves once and found the #1 intake loose. Resetting it didn't affect the clicking noise. Thanks for the valve setting instructions.
