Allison auto
Allison auto
Anyone on here running one? My boss has a 12 valve that he's putting the third transmission in (rebuilds by BG&S). He asked about putting an Allison in and they told him it's impossible. I've heard of it, and know there are aftermarket computers for them, but was wondering what anyone who was running one thought of it.

ive never ran one but those things are a mechanics nightmare to take out and reinstall. the internals are huge though. id just get the 727 style transmission built by someone who knows what they are doing because your boss will have a ton of money into a swap.
ATS in Colo. always have several Allisons on the shelves in their shop when I make it through there. As I recall I did ask them last time I was there, if they'd ever put one in a Dodge/Cummins, and as I recall they said yes... or maybe they said no, its been a few years... I forget now.
But for reliability and strength in building up the 47RH, 47RE and 48 transmissions, I don't think anybody has demonstrated a better track record than ATS. I've had my Stage IV trans for 170,000 miles now, and it's still going great.

It's funny you talk about swapping an allison into a dodge, there are a few duramax guys out there that have swapped the 48RE into there trucks and have had better reliability under high horsepower racing situations then with there allisons.
When I looked into it years ago (there are Allison's that will mate to the B6) the problem I found was in order to get an Allison rated to handle the power of the Dodge Cummins I needed a tranny from an over the road type truck, then I was looking at a very big and HEAVY tranny...
The Isuzu puts out way more than the stock 12 valve, so it should be rated to handle more than what the boss's truck is putting out. We're not looking at any hop-ups, just reliability. The Allison Gm uses in their trucks should bolt up by simply changing the bellhousing adapter.
Boy, I am almost skeered to throw this out lest we have another war, but good info on this thread.

And, how are you planning on controlling the transmission?
As said above, you can get a really well built 47RH/E for less than you'll have invested by the time you get an Allison to work.
I have a Stage IV ATS in my 98, and it is flawless. My Chevy buddies like it better than their stockers, except for the auto down-shifting stuff that the Alli's will do.
These allisons will go in but it won't be cheap you have to get a tranny that's 05 or older the 06 and up have a different tcm and nobody I can find has a stand alone controller yet to put behind our cummins on those. Destroked, and fordcummins have stand alones I believe and fleece performance can program a tcm. Destroked option looks the best to me I think this is the best tranny out there right next to the 47
