'98 auto shift points??
OK, I haven't had this truck long, and I'm not sure of it's mechanical history. (98 CTD 4x4 12V) The trans shifts nice and firm. 1st to second shifts quicky, right out of the hole. 2nd to 3rd takes longer. It will hold until 2500/2600 rpm before it shifts to 3rd, and then the converter locks up.
The truck has 224K on it. I'm sure the trans has been overhauled. I just don't know what's in it, or how it was set up. I know the truck was set up to haul, with both 5er, and goose neck hitch.
My question is, how is the shifting programmed? Is it something that I can change myself? I'd like it to shift into 3rd around 2000/2200. I can make it shift at that rpm now by letting all the way off the go pedal. It will shift, and I get back on the pedal and go on. Or I just hold it until it shifts. I'd like for it to do the shifting on it's own. In it's stock GSK /Fuel Plate /injector setup, it's running out of steam at 2500, and it seems like the engine and trans are struggling against each other. The Trans wants more rpms, and the engine don't want to give it.
I'm about to give it the 330 injectors, 3kgsk, #8 plate, and BHAF. The engine will be happy to give more after the mods, but I still don't want to wrap the engine that tight to shift, unless I'm seriously on the go pedal.
I just want to get an opinion from the forum's trans gurus before I pull into the local transmission shop and listen to them try and rape me by selling me trans work that I don't need.
Thanks...
