97 needs a replacement clutch
97 needs a replacement clutch
I just picked up a nice 1997 2500 4x4 regualr cab 5-speed with just under 96 thousand miles. The truck runs and drives really good but the clutch is engaging at nearly the 'top' of the pedal.
The truck has almost NO modifications - the muffler has been removed, a K&N air filter installed and the timing has been bumped up a little bit.
I'm only looking for a good quality stock replacement clutch. I have no mods planned nor any towing and will probably only drive the truck a little while and sale it. Where can I get a good economically priced OE or better quality clutch kit or do you guys just suggest a new clutch disc and flywheel turning?
Also, what is a reasonable price to pay a shop to do the work? (if I don't tackle it myself)
if any of you are looking to buy a good 12v truck I've got this one that is/will be for sale

valair has a great stock replacement clutch rated at 375hp. Mine was $225 shipped, I did get a 3200 disc which holds alittle more power, but the organic disc from them is good stuff for a stock replacement, and very reasonable price. Check out there site.

I just put a south bend 400hp rated clutch in my 96' at 240k and it never slipped. Is yours slipping? Dodge put in a non-bleedable, non-adjustable hyd master and slave setup and after changing my clutch it took a month for the clutch to feel right. The clutch cost me 900 installed, I might check your hydraulics first before the r&r the clutch.
