97 fuel problem?
Could be your idle or fuel pressure is too low.

An air leak almost always causes hard starting.
Does it still have the fuel heater? If so, jettison the POS. It is pretty much worthless and only causes problems when it (or its seals) start to go out. It injects air into the fuel stream on the suction side. Usually it causes starting problems because it lets the fuel in the suction line drain back into the tank.
