97 12 valve leaking oil like crazy
Ok guys. Thought I had my oil problem fixed on my 1997 12 valve. The front cover had a couple bolts that were extremely loose. Took it off and replaced all gaskets n such and that leak stopped. But now it is leaking oil somewhere on the drivers side of the motor on the side of the engine. Its also leaking power steering fluid in the same area and I can't seem to pin-point either leak. Any help would be great. the whole underside of the truck and when I pull a trailer is getting covered with oil.

Tappit Cover Gasket
I recently had to replace the Tappit Cover gasket (I think this is what it is called) or for certain, it is the cover and gasket over the push rods. When those gaskets go they leak copious amounts of oil while the truck runs. When the truck is shut down and oil is no longer being forced into that cavity what oil is in there drains but no additional oil leaks.
It was a very difficult project for me as it required the removal of much stuff, particularly difficult was the injection pump. This leak too, was very difficult to find as it was behind the injection pump and in the exact vicinity of the power steering pump.
Good luck.

Exactly what he said.........bought all my repair kits from Gould Gear. The seal kit with gaskets and plastic tools to pound them in place runs around $50. High mileage units may get a wear groove......need to move the seal out a tiny bit or look for a junkyard part. Mine seem to last around 150k on the mileage.

My dad had rebuilt the vacuum pump for me. And put it back in the truck when I was gone on the road working. It could be possible he forgot the seal between the two. Thanks guys I will have to check into that.
