4x4 does not work
4x4 does not work
I was haulen hay yesterday. when i found out i had no 4wheel drive. yes i get stuck. Bad. its the 241 TC. i can here it go in but there is nouthing. would it be a fuse? I also have a vacuum leak. I only have defrost. any help would be grat. I thought i would ask all of you before i i started to the beast and spent more money than i need to.
You need to find the vacuum leak, vacuum is what moves the "CAD" puts your front wheels in four wheel drive. After that you need to give us more info, do you have the 4X4 light? Most problems seem to be the CAD-"central axle disconnect."

could you test the vacuum pump?
Vacuum pumps rarely fail to make vacuum, they leak oil though.
Easy way to tell if you for sure have a leak is to run the engine for a few minutes, shut down for a few then disconnect any vacuum hose.
If it doesn't hiss you have a leak. A system with no leaks will hold vacuum for hours.
Most common leaks are under the battery at the cruise actuator or around the tees near the the fuel filter.
I just found out my 4x4 wasn't working today and looked by the fuel filter and sure enough there was a melted vacuum line and the L connector in the same sleeve was not connected to anything. Where can I buy some of that vacuum hose and do you have any idea where that L connector plugs into back there? I shoved my hand all over behind and under the fuel filter and can't find anything.

I recently had the exact same thing happen, I was hauling hay too. The vacuum lines got pulled off of the solid connections for the CAD, right on top of the frame piece that crosses in front of the transfer case. One was red, the other black, and they were just danglin' there. My light wouldn't come on either. I just crawled under a similar truck to see which one connected where, and that was the fix.
Did you get it pulled out yet?

Nope, weather is a bit bad and I was way to tired to try and get that done. I should be able to see where the melted line goes but I have no clue where the L connector that is sitting right by my fuel filter housing attaches too.
if fixing vacuum leaks doesn't fix it... then move on to vacuum actuator located on front axle.
you need to jack up front axle, the put a vacuum source on actuator.
both sides should hold vacuum. if not it's bad.
