should you drive in 4wh on highway 1/2 inch slush 45 -50mph or use it only when you can't get traction in 2wd. This is first time I hade 4x4 in winter driving. thanks D.C.

I suspect that you will get varying opinions on this. Personally I don't but I will try to lay out the pros and cons of using 4X4.

Pros: Less likely to lock up one or two tires under braking, rear end won't walk out under acceleration, steering is easier(front wheels pull the truck around).

Cons: Requires that all tires are the truly the same size, wears out some components faster, you are more likely to go somewhere that you shouldn't.

If you were racing, it would be obvious to use 4 wheel drive but just driving along, it is personal preference.

i would put it in 2wd on the highway for only a 1/2 of slush, but last night when it was snowing and it was blizzard like conditions with 4-5 inches of snow on the ground i was in 4wd cranking down the highway at 55, but i also launch in 4wd when im racing someone and i don't take it out until im done with the quarter mile, and it works good.

For 1/2" of slush, I wouldn't even think about putting it in 4wd. If you're going through some deep snow, sure, but not for 1/2" of precipitation.

I think the manual says only use 4X4 on wet pavement, you should be OK even if it just makes you feel better.

Be very conservative using 4WD especially being this is your first experience.

Cons: ..., you are more likely to go somewhere that you shouldn't.
Very true

Here's another good rule. 4WD will put you in the ditch twice as fast or twice as far as 2WD on ice.

But locking the brakes will do it three times as fast!

You can lock the brakes up in 4wd as well, especially with an auto.

I've noticed that the use of 4x4 allows me to get stuck in some of the prettist places. But back to your ? I'll slid in & out of 4x4 on pavement when I feel the need.

I think it's personal choice but...... there is absolutely no point in engaging 4X4 AFTER you have been involved in the accident , spun out or hit the ditch. When ditching it sometimes pays to keep the power on and drive your way out and you can't do that in 2WD
