None.
The 4l80e can be controlled buy a standalone tci trans computer though. They are about 700$ I think. I ve tuned a few.

Some stand alone engine systems can comtrol an 80e, but I ve never heard of another stand alone trans pcm other then the the tci unit.

bigstuff3 can do it, they may have a stand alone unit also. Mast has controllers that can even do the 6l90e, they may have a stand alone trans unit also.

I run a TH400 behind mine so they can be made to work power wise, just depends on the power you plan to throw at it. I have all the good shafts a manual VB in mine.

Bad advice...

I am not 100% sure on the years, but I AM 100% sure that it was offered. I know it was done in 1993 and I also think it was done in 1992. The 6.5L was only electronic from 1994 on. The earlier models had an all mechanical engine and thus had a standalone controller for the 4l80e transmission. They are kind of tough to find, though.

I looked into doing this about a year ago. What I found out that the TC for the 4l80e would last less than 10,000 miles on average. I found a company that was able to build one and hold up to the power of the cummins, but not enough road time to be 100% sure. And any power over stock required a VB upgrade. To me it wasn't worth the headache.

Here is an odd question? Why do you want to go with that trans over your allison trans?

JK, probably for the overdrive, the 545 is not.

I could be wrong, but I thought all 6.5 4L80E diesels had a standalone, not just the pre-electric ones.

Could be wrong though.

Yea not all of them are. I know mine was not. Me personally I would get a newer allison over the 4l80e unless you are not going to increase power. I did the leg work for 6 months with tons of calls. That is why I did not use my good old 4l80e and went with the 47re built.

I was told that it will not hold up long behind the cummins. I am just repeating what 150 people told me.

Just for shear information you can run a 4L80e a few different ways. The best way would be to talk to Carl Rossler at Rossler Trans in Girard, OH. He makes a module that plugs into the power plug on the trans, makes it a full manual valve body. He also makes a trans brake for them. If anyone could tell you what they would really hold it would be him. You can also convert them to FMVB with a transgo stage 3 FMVB kit or a Trinity FMVB kit. I run the stage 3 in my camaro. Supposedly you can also convert them into a 6l80e with 6 gears, kinda like an allison. A few guys get their OBDII PCM's reprogrammed to handle the 4L80e also. Although I'm not sure the hard parts inside would hold much over a stock Cummins. Check into it though.
