47rh shifting and tc problems
I'm having some issues with the 94 in my sig. First off if its a cold morning it shifts thru first and second but will sometimes take a mile or 2 till it hits 3rd an shortly after usually locks in OD at 45mph. My problem is once I let off after its locked in OD. If I'm doin say 60mph and let off my tc will unlock and engine will go down to idle. It never downshifts in any gear. It jus goes to idle. If I'm doing above 45mph I can get back into it and it will rev up but after a second or 2 it'll lock back into OD. How do I fix this so that it will downshift and stay locked? Tc lockup switch? Something with tps? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
What you describe is 100% normal. the RH will not shift into 4th or lock its converter until the fluid temp is above 70F (plugging it in fixes that) as I often enter a busy freeway with a cold RH sitting in 3rd at 60mph for a few miles and yes, it unlocks as soon as you let your foot off (or brakes pressed) and re-locks with a little throttle. This is done to protect the trans from to much stress from the CTD. You will also notice that it will unlock if you approch full throttle to quickly but will stay locked if you slowly press the throttle it to the floor at freeway speeds. Check my vid out at the 1:15 mark, is this what yours does when you let off? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIffOi2A_d4
and to answer your other question about a fix, you generally do not want it to downshift if your above 45, if for any reason you do just hit the OD button and that will put it into 3rd locked quickly. I use it when rolling threw town and dont want anyone to know its a auto
yup, 100% normal on these older trans as they do not stay locked like the allison does. Here is my truck today on a 40F upshift:
