3000 spring and KDP

hey going after the killer dowel pin and the finally put in my 3000 rpm spring kit. I thought i read somewhere about chiseling some bolts, so I'm guessing they have to be replaced? any idea what size thread and pitch? I would like to have everything on hand before I tear it down. Also, do I need to put a gasket in on the timing cover after I tab the KDP, or can I just rtv it? I know what the answer is, just wanted to know in case I am unable to get the gasket before I leave friday.

anything else exotic I am going to need before I tear in to all this? I have a caliper for the spring kit, what about special tools? Just drill and Tap a hole for the pin, or is there an exsisting hole to be used for the tab?

To get underneath the AFC there are some bolts that you need to chisel ( or be careful and use a dremel tool) so that they look like a flathead screw. But if I remember correctly to get to the governor springs there is a plug near the bottom rear section of the pump and it is an actual bolt head. So you shouldnt have to chisel anything.

As for the KDP I just fixed mine this weekend and I used a gasket on the cover just so there isnt a chance of leakage. But some people do fine with rtv by itself. As far as installing the tab, there is a bolt right next to the the dowel pin and you just put the bolt through the hole in the tab after you beat the pin back in. Make sure to check the torque of the other bolts underneath the cover to make sure they're tight. I pulled all of them out and reinstalled them with blue loctite. Hope this helps.

I just did some fuel pump mods, and he break off screw can be a PITA depending on how tight it is. I came up with an easy way to get it out. Find a 12 point socket that is a bit too small to fit over what's left of the breakoff bolt. Using a light hammer, tap the socket over the screw, the 12 sides will bite in, and turn it off. Worked like a charm on my truck, less than 1 minute to get it off.

The gov spring retainers are a different shape than anything else I have seen before.

I took a cheap 10MM socket and ground it to look like a spanner nut socket with only two ears. The two ears will engage the gov spring retainer and make it quick and easy to remove and install and adjust the spring heights.
