241dhd to 271 swap

Has anyone swaped out a 241dhd for a 271? as I understand it you dont need to replace the front drive shaft. And with a slip yoke eliminator the 271 can be shortend up quite a bit. The price for a rebuilt 241dhd is the same as a rebuilt 271 with a SYE. So all I'd have to do is have my rear drive shaft modified for a slip joint and a flanged yoke. What do you all think? Am I overlooking something? this seems to simple/easy a fix.
thanks
chris

where is your speedo pickup? mine is in the t-case. the newer trucks have it in the pumpkin, you may loose your speedo.

Do a search, Getblown5.9 did it with a 6 speed, not sure if it would work the same with the NV4500. It has been a month or so since he posted about it, I "think" it was in the 2nd gen. performance section.

my speedo is off the rear. thank goodness.

I'll search for getblown. I know the outputs on the 4500/5600 are teh same and the 241dhd bolts up the same to both so it should physically fit. I know because I did a 5600swap a few dozen times on my truck befor I put the 4500 back in.

Thanks for the input.

captain its not hard to not hard to do pretty much bolts right up just make sure that when you do your rear drive shaft you need to get a different size yoke cause the output shaft of the 271 is larger.

I was thinking of going with a slip yoke eliminator on the 271. I have to have a slip joint put into the drive shaft though. You think the slip joint in the drive shaft is any stronger/weaker a setup then a slip yoke on the transfer's output shaft? Also is the 271 alot stronger then a 241dhd? enough to be worth the cost.

I dont remeber the numbers but the 271 is a lot stronger than the 241DHD. There have been quit a few pullers that have switched to the 271. It can be done. It's what I'll be putting in my 97.
