1995 charging problem...
The part number is 230-52049. The name on the box is Transpo. It says "VR INSERT ND-CHR" They asked me if it was a nipsendso or a bosch alternator so I assume the "NR" means nipsendenso. or however that is spelled.
will this fix work on a 97?
Hi all -- Fantastic information!! I am hopeful this fix discussed here will work on a '97 as well? I havent been driving my truck for months due to this same charging problem, and not wanting to spend the $500 on a new pcm that works fine --- except the regulator. Only difference in the problem I have read is ataboy9026 had a check engine light come on, and I have a gen light on, no check engine light ever. My truck is a 3500 4x4, manual, if that matters in this situation. Any of your insight and expertise would be appreciated greatly!! Thanks in advance --------
Well the charging problem came up again. So I took the cover back off my alternator to change the "new" regulator and wasn't too happy with how the ground looked. It comes pre- terminated and showes in the instructions to connect under a small phillips screw that is used to attach the regulator assembly to the alternator. So I took it off and ran it out of the cover and attached it to one of the small nuts that holds the factory wire harness to the back of the alternator. I also ran new wire from there to the fender ground and another down and connected to the frame. Well that worked excellent.......... for about 3 weeks. Now the thing wont charge again. The "check engine" light has been on throughout this whole deal, I assume it is still reading a no-charge condition from the PCM. But I am not sure. The light didnt bother me, until now I have the no charge thing again. Any suggestions???????
no charge.....
Ataboy --I am still trying to find a fix for mine-- I went to the local car quest here in AZ, and they had not heard of the part # you posted -- any chance you could give me the number of the store you purchased the kit from? Maybe they would send one out this way..........
Yes, I actually went there today and purchased a new one with hope it somehow went bad. I changed it with little or no change. The store is in Elkhart,Indiana on county road 6. The phone number is 574-264-4139. But I am sure a store near you could get it.Dan is the owner of the store and Rob is a a counter helper that knows of this part. Some of the other guys may not know what youre talking about, so ask for one of them if you call. As to my problem I am going to take my alternator to the local rebuilder to have checked/rebuilt. Maybe they can shed me some light on this problem. I'll keep it posted....
alternater not charging due to computer failure
I did some research into this because I have had a similar charging problem and wanted to get more information before installing this in my truck. I have pasted in this email from the manufacture of the kit. I have ordered the kit and I will have it in a couple of days. If you don't see any further response from me on this subject then you know it all worked out just fine.

Hello Evan,
In the early development of this product it was unclear if the voltage regulator you are inquiring on would have a drive ability problem. We have had no such problems installing these on vehicles with Electronic Fuel injection systems.
If your vehicle has an indicator light on the dash the light will not go out as it is not controlled by the IN8315, but by the vehicles computer.
If equipped with a Volt meter you should have no problems installing this on your truck.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at the number provided.

EVAN,
Sorry for the delay in response to your question, but I do have an answer for you. The limitation for using this regulator on non fuel injected vehicles, is primarily for gasoline powered, small displacement vehicles, such as a Neon. The reason for not using it on these cars is because the computer monitors throttle position so as not to turn the alternator on fully when the throttle is closed. If the alternator did turn on at a very high charge rate while the car was at idle it will cause the car to stall. This could happen when going around a curve a stall could cause loss of power steering or even a crash. Of course with a diesel, this would not be much of an issue because of the lower peak of horsepower and torque.
