140 miles in 4th gear!

i had to go to lansing, MI yesterday to pick up a truck for my cousin, its about 320 miles away, on the way back my 5 gear nut decided to back off, leaving me 4 gear for about 140-150 miles to home, it sucked, but i got to see indiana at about 50-55mph, any body have to drive farther than that in
4th? and has anybody had good luck with the 5th gear replacement lock nut from dodge?

Hauled a friend's 28 foot boat from north Jersey down to the coast of South Carolina, everything went fine. An hour into the trip home, pulling nothing, and I lost 5th gear. It ended up about 12 hours later, running 2800 to 3000 rpms, before we got home.

I ran about 700 km at 2700-2800 rpm in 4th. After I passed traffic for a while doing 140-150 in alberta they all passed me again and I was doing 100 at the most. That was about the longest trip home ever.

My cousin made a trip from from Annapolis, MD to San Fran, with a stop home in Denver, in his 96. Around London, OH, the nut backed off, and left him without 5th gear. All I know is that from there, to Denver, and then on to San Fran, was all done without 5th due to the fact that his new post didn't allow time to get it fixed. He had 3.55's and 35's, so life wasn't too unbearable, but bad enough.

My replacement backed off. So the third time, I had to drop the transfer and split the trans. I decided to bust out the welder and a rosebudd, heated the shaft and nutt up to about 600. put a tack on both sides of the nut 20,000 miles later not one problem smooth at glass.

Yeah I drove mine for about 10 days or 2 weeks like that, probably put 1-1200 miles on like that. Just noisy was the only real complaint I had.

I drove mine for a week without 5th. All highway, 140km a day. Then 350km drive back to home where I picked up a used tranny with more miles than my original unit. Still holding in there.

1-5-3-6-2-4 (Luke) made a trip from Calgary to Denver and back again. Half way to Denver, he lost 5th gear. So 3/4 of the trip was in 4th. He also ended up swapping VP's on the side of the road in Denver.
