12Valve trouble codes
12Valve trouble codes
Hello, my name is Kevin. Prior to posting this question, I did a search on this
forum to see if I could find any info. So here is my question;
I recently purchased my boss's old work truck that has over 300k on it.
Yesterday the check engine light came on. I retrieved these codes....
12 , 14, and 55.
Anyone know what those codes are for? Any help would be really apreciated. I know I need a service manual for the truck but I'm having a family emergency and need to drive the truck to give help asap. Thanks in advance for any info.

I don't think 95's do the code thing
Here's the procedure and chart http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/trouble..._DTC_codes.htm
The info in the link says this doesn't work for '97 but every one I've tried it on does. For sure it doesn't work on '98.

I thought the US car manafacturers had to be OBD II capable by 96. I assumed this dealt with diesel pickup trucks also. The OBD II automobiles wouldn't necessarily show trouble codes with the check engine light. That should be something up untill 96. I have never looked at my truck close enough to see if it has an OBDII diagnostic port, I just assumed it did.
The diagnostic port according to spec should be visible from the drivers side looking inside the door. It is typically on the right side around the drivers knees.
That is how I understand it anyway.

all computerized vehicles have a test port somewhere, my 95 has the old chrysler plug but the only thing computerized on the engine is the tps afaict. chrysler vehicles even after 96 such as my 97 intrepid have the key forward and back 3 times to check codes with check engine light. they have 2 sets of codes for the intrepid one for the mil (malfunction indicator lamp) codes such as 12,24,55, and then the obd 2 p codes with the mil code 24 and then p0107 map sensor voltage low for an example.
